lovely place, nice accomodations
Excellent place! You're right in the heart of Grant Grove Village! Beautiful building, opened in 2000. Registration is in buildings right across parking lot from Vistor Center. Drive 1/4 mi into woods to lodge. No staff on duty there, really. You're on your own, but someone did help us with our bags voluntarily, and they do have housekeeping, etc. The central lounge area is awesome, with couches and chairs by the fireplace, books to read, games to play, lots of tributes to John Muir in the artwork. Classy. The rooms were three-star quality, I'd say. Very comfortable. No TV, which was super. Had a radio, that's it. Awesome getaway from the electronic world!!
No fridge or microwave, so dining options are limited to whatever you bring, or go to the restaurant. We requested a quiet room when booking it, but we were placed next door to the one guest in the building with a noisy toddler. Kind of disappointing. I'm sure they would have given us a different room if we'd asked, though. We didn't. That's our fault.
Nice location - very close to General Grant. Cozy environment. Friendly staff.
A bit noisy - therefore the earplugs provided.
A comfortable and low-key place in a beautiful setting.
Has gotten quite pricey in-season
Restaurant pricey for the quality offered.
Great location and very clean. Loved sitting in the rocking chairs enjoying our coffee in the morning watching the deer.
Noise from the plumbing? Dark path to the restaurant. Some discreet solar lighting along the path would be good.
We lOved the location. We could see deer outside our window. We lived the porches with the outdoor seating. The staff was unbelievably friendly. We had everything we needed. The place is very clean. This was our second stay. During our first visit we investigated every other option for lodging within the park, with price as no object, and decided John Muir was definitely the best!
My husband though the sheets were not soft enough.
right in the Kings Canyon forest. NO TV, which was perfect! quiet hours from 9 PM to 8 AM, fits well with forest location
no microwave or fridge, most families want these! NO AC, only baseboard heat very limited restaurant access, you are captive to the Grant Grove village cafe (good comfort food, skip the expensive and skimpy deserts)
The location couldn't be more beautiful.
My husband and I both contracted Salmonella while staying at the lodge. They have a huge problem with sanitary standards, especially with their food service.
Fantasic location as the lodge is nestled right in the Kings Canyon National Park, with nature right on your doorstep, very relaxing. The lodge is very clean and comfortable.
It was simply beautiful ... we loved our stay. The views were really spectacular and the living room was superb! We were with another "mature" couple, and we loved our side-by-side rooms!
Maybe the sign out front by the Reception Area could be updated ... we thought the Lodge was where the restaurant is, and we were a little taken aback! So glad we went up the road and came upon such a gorgeous, new Lodge. John Muir would be proud. Thanks for a great stay! Charlene
it was nice
the outside was not kept nice
Surrounded by beautiful trees and scenery. Comfortable room. Nice huge lobby with fireplace to congregate at during the day/evening. Enjoy the presentation, given in the lobby, by a summer park ranger about John Muir. He did it in character and what was going to be a 30 minute presenation, but he graciously took any and all questions afterwards, and stayed in character. Nice touch to our last night at the lodge!
No Sign Indicating the lodge was located on the road just past the Grant Grove Visitor Center. Mentioned this to the reception desk clerk and all we got in response was, "You are not the first to say that" with no indication that they got the message from other visitors and would put up a sign. Thanks to no sign, we missed where we needed to turn into and lost an hour (30 mins both ways.) Only managed to find it as we met a lovely group of 4 UK ladies, when we stopped at Kings Valley Lodge, as we knew we were lost. They had a US travel book and were able to send us back to the Grant Grove Vistor Center area. No refrigerator, microwave or TV in the room. Didn't miss the TV, but not having a refrigerator and microwave, when the only place to get something to eat in immediate area, closes at 9 PM, was definitely a minus. Their ice machine required the use of ones room card key to operate. Not a problem, unless you wanted more than one tiny bucket of ice. Only dispensed one bucket of ice per day. Did not seem to have an option of paying for more. Outta luck if it was after the small market had closed for the day.
